Central Sparks’ new signing, Erin Burns speaks about her delight to have finally touched down in the UK.
Burns has joined the Sparks on a deal until the end of July, where she will link up with the team to bolster the ranks during the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and Charlotte Edwards Cup.
On arriving in the UK, Burns said: I am really excited to be over here.
“It’s a lovely day here in Birmingham, so it’s nice to be here and have a first run around with the girls.
“It’s a really nice way to flush the cobwebs off and having a run around in the sun is a nice way to do it.”
Having played in the Hundred for both the Birmingham Phoenix and Manchester Originals, Burns is familiar with some of the faces in the team already.
She said: “Yeah, it’s good, I know a few of the girls through the Phoenix, and Lloydy [Lloyd Tennant] from some originals stuff, so it’s kind of already felt like I knew a few people.
“Everybody has been super welcoming, including Laura Macleod [Director of cricket] and Beth Gaskell [Team operations manager] who have sorted everything from day dot, so it’s been an awesome way to start.”
The Australian has come over with her family, adding that it is ‘vitally important’ for her.
Burns added: “The flight was long, but I’ve come over with my family and we’re all quite excited to be over here.
“It’s vitally important for me personally to have them with me.”
Burns comes over with a wealth of experience but wants to settle in nicely with the team.
She said: “First of all, it’s about feeling it out. Getting to know all the girls, find out what their way of playing and I guess adding a bit of experience.
“I’ve been around the traps a bit and been fortunate enough to play in lots of different franchises and lots of different leagues around the world.
“So, I’m ready for an English summer, I’ve not done it before for the whole summer, so hopefully the weather stays how it’s been.”
Burns is in contention to make her first appearance against the Thunder this weekend in Manchester, and she is definitely looking forward to the prospect of it.
Burns added: “Yeah, the idea of possibly making my debut for the Sparks at Old Trafford is cool.
“I’m just excited to get going now.”
