Central Sparks captain Eve Jones spoke at the team’s media day ahead of the 2023 season and she said: “We’re itching to get going.”
Jones and the side begin their season away in Nottingham at Trent Bridge on Saturday 22 April, in their opening game of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, 50 overs competition.
The Sparks number eleven said: “Obviously really excited to get out there and start the season.
“We’ve had some great players sign for us this winter, so we’re all itching to get going.
“I think we’d love to win some silverware; our aim is to make finals day in both competitions.
“But yeah, we are just focusing on starting the season next weekend.”
Last year, the Sparks did well in the Charlotte Edwards Cup and will be hoping to emulate that in 2023.
Jones knows the pressure that will be on the team going into the first game of the season against the Blaze next weekend, but that doesn’t take away from the excitement she’s feeling.
The 30-year-old added: “It’s a nice stadium isn’t it, so hopefully we can hit the ground running next weekend and make the most of the conditions.
“It is important to start the season well, especially me opening the batting, but it’s a big season ahead. We’ve got double games for some of the competitions.
“So, it’s important we start well.”
The pre-season leading into the season has been great for Jones and the side, it’s something she is hoping the team take into the opening fixture.
Jones said: “I think we’ve had a really good winter and the signings we’ve made have been important for us. So, hopefully we can put it all together in that first game.”
